In a surprising revelation, the UFC's top brass has admitted that Ian Garry, known as "The Future," might be too "boring" to headline future fight cards. This statement has sparked controversy and left fans wondering about the future of Garry's career and his potential title defense.
The issue was brought to light by Ali Abdelaziz, manager of Islam Makhachev, the current welterweight champion. Abdelaziz revealed that he had a conversation with a high-ranking UFC official, who described Garry's fighting style as "boring" and not exciting enough for a main event. With Garry's recent record of nine out of ten fights going to decision, it seems the UFC may have a different vision for his career path.
"I'm not going to say who [the official is], but he confirmed that Garry's style doesn't excite the fans enough," Abdelaziz stated. "He's not the fighter people think he is, and that's why he wasn't chosen for the main event in Qatar."
Despite his support for Garry's former division titleholder and client, Kamaru Usman, Abdelaziz acknowledges that the UFC might have a different plan for Makhachev's next title defense, expected to take place in May or June.
"I have no issue with Garry personally," Abdelaziz clarified. "But his recent losses and lack of arena-selling appeal might be a factor in the UFC's decision-making. If he could sell out an arena, why wouldn't they make him the main event? It doesn't add up."
This revelation has left fans and experts divided. Some argue that Garry's strategic and calculated fighting style is a breath of fresh air, while others believe it lacks the excitement and spectacle that UFC fans crave.
What do you think? Is Garry's style too "boring" for the main event, or is it a unique and strategic approach that deserves more recognition? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's discuss this intriguing debate!
