Misa's NHL Return: Sharks' Playoff Push & Lineup Changes! (2026)

Michael Misa's Return to a Transformed Sharks Team

It's a whole new ball game for Michael Misa as he rejoins the San Jose Sharks! When Misa last left the Sharks' lineup due to an ankle injury on November 5th, the team was struggling with a record of 4-6-3. At that time, playoff hopes seemed like a distant dream for a team that had been languishing at the bottom of the NHL standings for multiple seasons.

But now, fast forward two months, and the Sharks have flipped the script dramatically, boasting a record well above .500 and currently holding a coveted wild card spot in the Western Conference. They are 100% in the playoff hunt.

This dramatic turnaround presents a unique challenge for Sharks' head coach Ryan Warsofsky. He must carefully balance Misa's development with the team's playoff aspirations.

This means that Misa might not be in the lineup for every game. He's still developing in the NHL, which includes practice sessions and workouts. While these are valuable, they can't fully replace the experience of playing in the best league in the world.

After a demanding stretch of 7 games in 11 days at the World Juniors, with his last game on January 5th, Misa sat out Saturday afternoon's game against the Dallas Stars.

Adding to the situation, the Sharks had just secured a victory against the Los Angeles Kings on January 7th, with Adam Gaudette performing well as a third-line center – Misa's natural position. Gaudette even scored a goal in the overtime victory, with a final score of 4-3.

Coach Warsofsky pointed out that Misa, who is healthy, had only one practice with the Sharks since returning from the World Junior Championship.

But here's where it gets controversial... you can't bench a player who was the No. 2 pick of the 2025 Draft for too many games.

Warsofsky acknowledged the need to get Misa playing time, stating, "We know we need to get him to play, and he needs to play games and get him going here. So I don’t see him sitting up for too long." This decision is a vote of confidence, as the Sharks decided to keep Misa in the NHL rather than reassigning him to the OHL, indicating their belief that the 18-year-old center can contribute to their playoff push.

However, it's not a guarantee that he'll play in every game. He will need to earn his spot and compete with other talented NHL forwards. It will be interesting to see if this star prospect is up to the challenge.

San Jose Sharks Lineup (as of January 10, 2026):

  • Alex Nedeljkovic (Starting Goalie)
  • Eklund-Celebrini-Chernyshov
  • Regenda-Wennberg-Toffoli
  • Skinner-Gaudette-Graf
  • Goodrow-Ostapchuk-Reaves
  • Orlov-Liljegren
  • Ferraro-Iorio
  • Dickinson-Leddy

Coach Warsofsky mentioned that Klingberg might be available for the game against Vegas the next day, while Mukhamadullin is ruled out.

Dallas Stars (as of January 10, 2026):

The Stars were aiming to sweep the Sharks in their Saturday matinee game.

Where to Watch:

The Sharks vs. Stars game took place at SAP Center at 1 PM PT, broadcast live on NBC Sports California and on the Sharks Audio Network.

And this is the part most people miss... How do you think the Sharks should balance Misa's development with their playoff push? Do you think it's the right decision to keep him in the NHL, even if it means he doesn't play every game? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
