A bold initiative is taking on the stigma surrounding mental health in Cambridgeshire, and it's starting with a powerful podcast. The podcast, titled 'Side by Side', aims to shatter the taboo of mental health struggles, especially among men, and it's doing so with some remarkable guests.
But here's where it gets personal...
The debut episode features Gary Clarke, a man who knows the weight of societal expectations all too well. As a former prison officer, he's witnessed the consequences of unaddressed mental health issues. But now, as a mental health advocate, he's breaking the silence. Clarke works closely with new fathers, offering support through CPSL Mind's perinatal services, including the Andy's Man Club. In his own words, he's helping men understand that mental well-being isn't about meeting others' expectations but about being true to oneself.
Joining Clarke is Allan Hughes, CPSL Mind's co-production lead, who adds, "These conversations are not just eye-opening but necessary." Hughes emphasizes the importance of making mental health support accessible to all, and this podcast is a step in that direction.
And this is where the community steps in...
'Side by Side' is just the beginning. Future episodes will delve into youth mental health and local initiatives, ensuring that the conversation continues. The podcast is available on CPSL Mind's YouTube channel, providing a platform for these crucial discussions. Additionally, the CPSL Mind team will be at Cambridge United Football Club on February 14th, backed by the Cambridge United Foundation, to showcase their unwavering dedication to community mental health.
